Fluke and Guiness, Crewmates along with Steve and I on "Freddie"
I make art to challenge myself, as a means of personal development.
I use rich intense colour: worn, soft edges and semi abstract shapes to express the inner spirit behind the form. My work is usually based upon aspects of the human being and the journeys we take. Images might be influenced by the soft rolling hills of Herefordshire where I live and the cycle of the seasons. Words through story and poems, art journalling and the antroposophical works of Rudolf Steiner all continue to influence the work I do now.
I use water based pigment and dyes on natural fabric and paper. I work continually over the whole piece in overlapping layers, altering, building, refining the composition using paint and free machine embroidery. Text is often added using permanent market and stitch. Discouraged in the past by the blank white page, I have started making sketchbooks using my own recycled paintings and other assorted papers. This gives me the freedome to review old work and take it forward in new ways. Current work is a series of pieces based on images taken from journeys in my own canal boat "Freddie".
I create both 2D and 3D pieces dependent on the original inspiration.
I have the good fortune to belong to two artist groups, Artistree and Up-Front, whose members encourage me to regularly produce and exhibit original work.
